Who overlooks WaH?
I'll beat him up!
I state my statement again:
I sincerely think the Elementalist is more of a support class.

They are more of an support class than a primary damage dealing class. In that regard, I don't mind as much. I been playing as an Elementalist for a year now. While I miss being the one who everyone depended on for damage dealing, I kind of enjoy the new roles that the game has shaped Elementalists into. When Factions get released and when each character gets re-balanced, maybe we will be back as "nukers" who actually are the ones dealing major damage.
If you think, we Elementalists, have it bad, you should think about the Mesmer class and what happened to them.

The Mesmer class had nothing bad happening to them. They always kicked ass.
Well, people always overlooked them, but the people who overlooked them wouldn't be fit to team with a mesmer in any case.
For example, all the Elementalist builds I make for PvP are all support. No damage at all. Mostly E/Mo.

Dude, come on....
1. GW never really had much of a role-playing component.
2. You're profoundly upset because your favorite class lately has been less likely to get picked for a specific purpose in a specific part of the game. Next time you're in ToA, press 'M'. You'll discover that there's a whole map full of interesting places, with interesting situations for an elementalist. If the whole game for you is spending time raising money for a new change of clothes, maybe it's time for a new game.
3. Read some of the above posts. Ele is a diverse class. An ele can serve many useful functions in a team. Having a little more difficulty getting into a team now? Whisper the leader and explain why you'd be an asset. Necros, rangers and mesmers have been doing this for quite some time...

1) dont believe in what others say.
i play ele since day 1 i got the game , and no nerfing or what ever someone sais in foruns is going to change that.
2) most of peoples builds you see around are fake.
3) even some complains are fake.

im a fire ele im not an echo nuker im just a nuker. select your spells with a little thought and take a good tank with you to control aggro and you will find you can still nuke extremely effectively. meteor shower rodgorts invocation and fireball in rapid succession will do a LOT of damage.. take the two attunements for energy management and aura of restoration as a personal heal and you still got two slots left to fill. i like to take cry of frustration and res signet personally.
the fire ele is most certainly not dead! at least not in PvE

as other people have said the elementlist is a very diverse class
and i have played as a ele from then word go
there are few thing i enjoy more than droping the 3 shower of huge bricks on someone head, casting ice spikes on a warrior then watch as they try to chase you, using aftershock on a koncked down foe and hearing my speaks struggle with the noise and knocking someone down while they are casting using gale.
one thing i don't like about elementislists are the way that people tend to specialise in one element.
i belive thatif you are going to be a go elementlist you need to have the full complement of spells and sklls , just like anyother profession.
instead of finding people in PvE using meoter on the ring of fire , when wtaer spells are more effective.

here's my ele story, whether you want it or not :P
basically, ele was my first character and my first love. played it since launch. then, i left the game for about six months. i came back in december to find this anti-nuke patch in place. well, it totally killed my build, whic relied entirely on nukes like ms, fs, and sh.
my immediate thought was "well, now that my fave character is useless, i guess ill go play with my necro." i must admit, i love the necro now and use him constantly. but im starting to play around with the ele a bit more. all this ele hate going on in these forums has only driven my determination to find leet ele builds. before december, i had never even played with water or earth. but combining these elements with others is proving to be really fun. and something i brought up in the "why nuking sucks" thread was that while the ele primary attribute may be completely nullified by the fact that ele skills cost so much, people should really try using other class's skills more often. for example, ive been playing around in RA with e/n and e/me builds using only secondary profession skills. i must say, im impressed with the results. and it turns out even better when you combine those skills with ele skills (wards, slowing spells, etc).
i would also like to point out the plight of the ranger. when GW was first released, nobody, and i mean NOBODY wanted rangers in their groups. they were looked upon as the worst class ever. then came the NR builds. all of a sudden, NR owned HoH like air spikes before it and iway does now. now, it seems like no one can live without a ranger on their team. the same thing happened with red mages in FFXI. i think that if you give it time, the ele will work out the same way. all it takes is a unique idea (which im feverishly working on :P) and some guild cooperation and i predict that eles will rise to the top. maybe it will take until factions for it to happen. maybe it will never fully happen. but i can guarantee that someone will produce a winning build.
btw, i can also see this happening with the ritualist in factions. atm, it seems like ritualist is gonna be a rejected class and everyone is gonna make an assassin (including me). but i would bet money that at one point in GW's future, the ritualist will also rise to the top. every class has its moments, and i refuse to believe that the ele's has come and gone with the air spikes that so efficiently pwned at launch.
that is my rant. thank you and good day.

Fighting off the urge to get into another pro-Geomancer rant. ^^
Most PUGs do not know what a Warder is, or much of anything else for that matter, that isn't a cookie-cutter tank, healer, battery, or nuker. So don't expect much out of them. Generally speaking I end most missions with PUGs to the sound of "oh wow that was easy" or "we kicked ass, that wasn't hard at all," blissfully unaware as to why precisely.
It might have something to do with the fact half the melee attacks during the mission missed, that they withstood incoming nukes easier, that mobs weren't able to scatter as the nuker lobbed his fire spells at them, or the fact they didn't have to really worry about healing that crazy Geomancer up front with the tanks, who was shrugging off most physical damage better than the warriors and all but immune to enemy spells.
That's the support role, and its a role the Elementalist has always excelled at. Like the Mesmer though, its not a very visible or glorious role, that the PUG doesn't see in action, only the effects of that action.
That said, my advice would be this: examine your profession carefully, to see what and how it can bring utility and support to your group. See what your secondary can do to augment and compliment that (e.g. Physical Resistance from my Mesmer half is a nice reinforcement to my Earth armour spells). And then take a step back and watch the entire team as you run the mission or quest or whatever, instead of focusing on one particular mob or group of mobs.

A boost in faith, eh?
First of all, I'm an Emo. Really though, I'm just a Pyromancer. I only chose Monk because I was bored and needed to get a second profession. I don't even use my Mending anymore.
You might think Ele's can't solo. Wrong. I solo all the time in some rough areas for a poor little Emo such as myself.
"Oh but you suck at melee!"
Screw melee. Cast Lava Font and they scatter. They can't cut you open if they are busy running away.
"Oh but you have no self heal!"
Pah, Aura of Restoration right before the aggro. Self-heal is now taken care of. Ether Renewal as well to give a bit of a health boost and energy resupply when the going gets rough.
"Oh but if they gang up on you, you are screwed."
Incendiary Bonds, Meteor Shower, and Fireball. They die wishing that they never ganged up on me.
Basically, with the right build, any Ele can do anything. Heck, while writing this I ran my friend to Yak's Bend from Piken Square. Had to rez him a few times because of Hydras, but still... An Emo Pyromancer ran to Yak's. While being occupied on another computer. Through all the Mesmer and Necro types, through all the Ranger types, through all the Warrior types, and of course through the Hydras.
Elementalists rock. End of story.

you seem adamant that ele's are useless, that you've lost your interest in the game, and that everything's warriors, monks, and necros. if that's the case, go ahead and delete anything you want. we certainly can't stop you.

all you're saying is your ele can survive in pve. you can cause monsters to scatter with your aoe attacks. big deal. you give us no reason to believe you can do anything in pvp.
you give us nothing but your opinions. 'die wishing that they never ganged up on me'. 'any ele can do anything'.
what does running to yaks have to do with anything.

what he's saying is, player skill is very important.
it might be good to make sure that you have yours before trashing a class. anyone watching me play my ranger in pvp can conclude that rangers suck, simply my skills in interrupting are lacking. give a skilled player a elementalist, people will say that eles are good simply because of the skilled execution.
